About Cool Mountain Theatre

Cool Mountain Theatre is an all-volunteer nonprofit theatre serving the Southern Indiana region. Cool Mountain’s mission is to inspire excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement through high-quality musical, theatrical, and educational experiences. Cool Mountain has built a reputation for ambitious, high-caliber productions.

Our production history spans a wide range of musical theatre, from the intimate and heartfelt (Little Women, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Godspell) to the boldly theatrical and contemporary (The Addams Family, Six, Hadestown). Each production has been mounted entirely by volunteers including those with professional backgrounds and high level skill training in arts disciplines alongside community members — who give their time and talent in service of a shared artistic mission – to do awesome shows and work with awesome People.

What sets Cool Mountain apart is an organizational commitment to treating each production as a testing ground for technical innovation. Rather than working within existing production conventions, Cool Mountain actively develops new production techniques to deploy within the shows. The result is a higher production value than one might expect from a small theatre.

Cool Mountain Theatre has had two milestones in the last year: in May 2025, becoming resident studio artists at the NoCo Arts Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana and one month later, in June 2025, Cool Mountain was officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization — a reflection of the seriousness with which the organization approaches its work and dedication to developing talent.

Today, Cool Mountain operates under three core values: Be excellent to one another. Be excellent in your craft. Attitude is altitude. These values shape how Cool Mountain builds shows and builds its community. We like to work hard, yet keep it cool.
